En el año 1941, durante la guerra del Perù con Ecuador, los jovenes esposos Zoila Mercedes Lòpez Arèvalo y Fausto Catalino Lòpez Lòpez abrieron el primer hotel en el pequeño pueblito que era entonces Pucallpa, en una casa en el cruce de jr. Crnl. Portillo con jr. Atahualpa y lo llamaron « Mercedes », segundo nombre de la esposa.
La primera carretera Lima – Pucallpa estaba en construcciòn y el potencial del tràfico aereo incrementò cada dìa, aumentando el flujo de viajeros. El èxito de la empresa motivò a los esposos Lòpez a planificar la construcciòn de un hotel nuevo, màs grande y mejor ubicado en el cruce de los jirones Raymondi y Ucayali.
El nuevo hotel « Mercedes » fue inaugurado en el año 1956 y, debido a su gran èxito con los viajeros, vio varias etapas de expansiòn y mejoramiento, en las dècadas consecutivas.
Hoy dìa el hotel esta manejado por representantes de la segunda y tercera generaciòn de la misma familia, siempre comprometidos en dar un acojedor hogar temporal a sus huèspedes, ofrecerles comfort moderno, tranquilidad, buena atenciòn y ser para ellos una « isla de paz » en el centro de la ciudad, agitada y ruidosa.

WHO WE ARE
In 1941, during the war Peru – Ecuador, the young couple Zoila Mercedes Lopez Arèvalo and Fausto Catalino lòpez Lòpez opened their first hotel in the small village that was Pucallpa, in a house on th crossing of Coronel Portillo and Atahualpa streets and they called it “Mercedes” according to the second name of the wife.
The first paved highway Lima – Pucallpa was being built in these years and the potential of air traffic increased every day, as did the flow of travellers from and to Pucallpa.
The success of their business motivated the couple to plan and build a new hotel, bigger and better situated, on the crossing of Raymondi and Ucayali streets. The new hotel “Mercedes” was inaugurated in 1956 and, due to the big success it met with travellers, saw in the following decades different stages of expansion and improvement.
Today, the hotel is still managed by the same familiy, representing the second and third generation, thoroughly engaged in giving a temporary home to their guests, offer them modern comfort, tranquillity, good service and to be for them a “haven of peace” in the centre of a bustling and noisy town.
